A calorie (or kilocalorie) is a measurement of energy.
1 calorie = the amount of energy (heat) required to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit).
There are 3500 calories for each pound of body fat. To lose one pound of stored fat, technically you would need to burn 3500 extra calories.
A male athlete typically consumes upwards of 7000 calories a day!
Fidgeting can burn 350 calories a day.
The 2007 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Champion, Joey Chestnut, ate 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes. In that amount of time he consumed approximately 20,394 calories (1 hot dog = 309 calories).
Takeru Kobayashi, 6-time defending champion and placing 2nd in 2007, ate 53 3/4 hot dogs - about 16,609 calories.
You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching TV.
