Me Time

Published on Jan 30th, 2008 in Motivation | 4 Comments »

I’m not a morning person, yet my favorite part of the day is right before the sun rises. Everything at this time is on the brink of waking up. Everything is still. The sun is almost on the horizon, ready to brighten the sky. I enjoy the quiet and peace. This is the time of [...]

What Are You Eating for Breakfast?

Published on Jan 28th, 2008 in What I Ate | 4 Comments »

I am hooked on a new cereal discovery!

This is an organic, granola cereal with slightly sweet pumpkin seeds and flax seeds, and it is soooo good! My husband and I especially like the pumpkin seeds (and I’m not a big “seed” person).
Quick nutritional run down:
1/2 cup will give you:

140 calories (not bad for granola!)
5 [...]

Plan for Handling Cravings - Start with Breakfast

Published on Jan 25th, 2008 in Cravings, Health, Nutrition | No Comments »

Cravings happen. Sometimes they seem to pop out of nowhere. Sometimes they’re emotional. And sometimes they exist simply because I’m getting hungry! My feelings towards cravings have always been the same, regardless of the situation: I don’t like them!
What I need is to come up with a plan that will assist me in handling my [...]

Avoiding the M&Ms

Published on Jan 23rd, 2008 in Cravings | 6 Comments »

A large basket of candy sits on a table right next to my boss’s door. This attractive looking basket (Longaberger, no doubt) is joined by a glass candy dish filled with shiny, colored plain M&Ms.
The M&Ms taunt me.
Every time I walk past my boss’s office (which I have to in order to get to the [...]

Pizza Night!

Published on Jan 21st, 2008 in What I Ate | No Comments »

This is what my husband and I ate the other night, a homemade, healthier pizza.
I say healthier because it was lower in fat and lacked preservatives. I made the crust with wheat flour, and the cheese was, of course, low-fat. I sprinkled Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and a little bit of pepper on [...]

Healthy Junk Food

Published on Jan 17th, 2008 in Health, Nutrition | No Comments »

When I was a young child I wished chocolate chip cookie dough was “good for you.” Actually, I still wish that, but I’m just a little more realistic now. However, perhaps that fantasy is closer to becoming true that I would have thought.
An Israeli study observed that consuming specific antioxidants, called
polyphenols, along with fatty foods [...]

Overcoming the Lure of Sleeping in

Published on Jan 15th, 2008 in Motivation | 4 Comments »

I get up at 4:40am Mon-Fri to exercise, but not because I really want to.  I am not a morning person by any means, but the early morning hours are the best time in my schedule to work out.  I have to say I feel good about getting my workout accomplished at the start of [...]

Diet Friendly Fats

Published on Jan 14th, 2008 in Nutrition, Weight Loss | 4 Comments »

A fat that can help you lose weight - that sounds like a contradiction to me! After all, fats add extra calories to my diet - not good. Yet, fat makes food taste delicious - very good! Another contradiction!
Well, apparently diet friendly fats do exist (unfortunately not in the form of M&Ms)! [...]

Fun Facts about Green Tea

Published on Jan 11th, 2008 in Fun Facts | 2 Comments »

Green tea was originally from China. It is made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, a type of shrub native to South and Southeast Asia.
White tea, oolong, and black tea are also made from the Camellia sinensis leaves, but for green tea, the leaves are steamed immediately after picking, thus reducing oxidation.
Green tea has about [...]

Get Up and Dance!

Published on Jan 10th, 2008 in Fitness | 4 Comments »

I love dancing! There’s just something about a pulsating beat that literally makes me have to move! I can block out the world for a time, realse stress and just have fun.
I also get an incredible workout! Dancing requires using the entire body; it combines cardio and strength aspects. These characteristics make dancing not only effective, but efficient – meaning you [...]
