Carrie Underwood’s Pressure to Stay Thin

Published on Apr 25th, 2008 in Health | 7 Comments »

I like Carrie Underwood. I think she has clear and powerful voice. She also seems to conduct herself in a decent manner. Yet, this seemingly sweet, country girl from Oklahoma is not immune to the pressures that Hollywood, and society in general, place on the importance of looking thin and beautiful.
Something just [...]

I love to run. Always have, even as a little girl. And I was fast! Oh, I may have looked sweet and innocent, but I deceived the boys and beat them in races on the playground (much to their chagrin). No one could catch me in “boys chase girls,” and I [...]

High Fructose Corn Syrup - This Stuff is Everywhere!

Published on Apr 14th, 2008 in Nutrition | 8 Comments »

As of late, I’ve been trying to avoid foods with high fructose corn syrup. But, my goodness, this stuff is everywhere!
It’s the main ingredient in the lite syrup I drizzle on my occasional weekend, wheat-protein-powder-added pancakes.
It’s in the fruit spread I use on homemade whole wheat toast.
It’s in the cranberry-apple “fruit” juice I water [...]

Banana Bread Recipe

Published on Apr 10th, 2008 in Cooking/Recipes | 8 Comments »

I love banana bread! I like to use bananas that are very ripe with lots of brown splotches; they give a sweeter flavor. However, the bananas in my house are usually eaten before this stage. Not the case this week! I noticed the bananas in the fruit bowl were getting [...]
