Cure for Sore Shoulders and Neck

Published on May 5th, 2008 in Fitness, Health | 5 Comments »

Who gets tight, sore muscles in the back of your neck and shoulders? Raise your hands!
I do. I get tight knots embedded deep within my muscles that give masseuses a run for their money! (Well, I am paying them, so they better not run until after the massage!)
I do love massages, but they can be [...]

BPA in your water bottle and other noteworthy posts

Published on May 2nd, 2008 in Health | 9 Comments »

Time I share some link love! And what an exceptional week to do so. I read some great posts that may have you rethinking a few of your daily habits.

Workout mommy wrote two informative posts about the controversial chemical found in many water bottles and canned foods. Bisphenol-A (BPA) can leak out of [...]

Carrie Underwood’s Pressure to Stay Thin

Published on Apr 25th, 2008 in Health | 7 Comments »

I like Carrie Underwood. I think she has clear and powerful voice. She also seems to conduct herself in a decent manner. Yet, this seemingly sweet, country girl from Oklahoma is not immune to the pressures that Hollywood, and society in general, place on the importance of looking thin and beautiful.
Something just [...]

Self-Defense Class

Published on Apr 18th, 2008 in Fitness, Health | 6 Comments »

I couldn’t pass up a free self-defense class at the gym today. It was offered as part of April being Sexual Assault Awareness month. The class was excellent, and I wish it could have lasted all day! Not only was it a good workout, but, even more importantly, I learned basic techniques for [...]

Are You in a Sleep Debt?

Published on Apr 7th, 2008 in Health | 8 Comments »

Are you in debt? Sleep debt, that is?
The average adult needs 7-9 hours of sleep - a night.  Most of us get 6 hours or less. Yes, some of you need fewer hours to function at optimal level, and I wish I were in this group!  Generally speaking, though, most of us lack for adequate sleep.
Caffeinated beverages [...]

Food For Thought… and Health

Published on Apr 2nd, 2008 in Health | 8 Comments »

Green tea may have another positive feature to add to its resume - that of increasing antibiotic effectiveness, even against superbugs! Green tea gave antibiotics a boost in their bacterial killing capabilities like spinach gave Popeye his super strength. I hope this study wasn’t just a fluke!  It would be great if green tea really can provide this benefit, especially since some [...]

The Afternoon Slump

Published on Mar 19th, 2008 in Health | 8 Comments »

Ever feel sleepy in the afternoon? I do sometimes, right around 2PM. It’s actually normal and related to the natural ebb and flow of our internal body clocks. It’s perfectly normal to feel a twinge of drowsiness in the afternoon.
So, what happens when we’re really feeling sleepy and our energy tank is riding [...]

Why Wait for That “Ideal” Weight?

Published on Mar 14th, 2008 in Health, Weight Loss | 8 Comments »

One of my goals has been to eat for health and not solely for looks.
I must have forgotten this important goal because the other day I was being too critical of the way my body looked - a little bit of tummy pooch; thighs not exactly rock solid. I’m not overweight, but I continued to [...]

My Current Health Goals

Published on Feb 13th, 2008 in Goals, Health, Sugar Addiction | 10 Comments »

I’ve been thinking about setting personal health goals for the past few weeks, two of them in specific.
Well, after some consideration, I’ve come up with two personal health goals I’d like to really focus on this year. They’re important to me, they would improve my health, they are a bit of a challenge (I like a good challenge now and then), and [...]

Massages - Luxurious and Necessary!

Published on Feb 4th, 2008 in Health | 2 Comments »

I had an hour long massage the other day, and oh my goodness, not only was it a special treat, it was necessary! I tend to get tight knots in my shoulders and upper back that become quite uncomfortable. I believe that’s where I accumulate stress. Sitting in front of a computer for hours doesn’t help either.
I [...]
