Food For Thought… and Health

Green tea may have another positive feature to add to its resume - that of increasing antibiotic effectiveness, even against superbugs! Green tea gave antibiotics a boost in their bacterial killing capabilities like spinach gave Popeye his super strength. I hope this study wasn't just a fluke!  It would be great if green tea really can provide this benefit, especially since some antibiotics are not as capable of getting rid of certain bacteria. This article illustrates the study in more detail.

And over here is a study describing what I've been holding to for years:  skipping breakfast = weight gain!  The study looked at adolescent boys and girls and found a direct relationship between bypassing breakast and a higher body mass index.  Why this is so is not for certain, but researchers surmise that breakfast provides energy, a satisfied tummy, and leads to increased activity levels and less consumption of food later in the day.

So eat that oatmeal; have that omelet, and go ahead and wash them down with a cup of green tea (preferably from Japan, but you know that's just my opionion)!  ;)

Tea is amazing! Have you ever tried white tea? I’ve heard that it’s even better for you than green tea is (and it’s super tasty).
PS you might want to wait about an hour between that breakfast and the mug of tea, or the tea might interfere with your bodys absorption of the nutrients in the food you’re eating:)

Sagan,
Yes, I’ve tried white tea. I like it very much. It has a very mild taste.
Good suggestion about the timing! Thanks! :)

Oh, I love both White and Green tea. I agree that the Japanese have it down to an art. I haven’t tasted Green tea here like what we had when we lived over there!

I should look into having some shipped over here! I’ll share. :)

I just can’t stand the taste of green tea. Do they make a concentrated form that I could just drink like medicine?

Jagdu,
You could experimenting with green tea – sweeten it with honey, add lemon, mix it with milk, try a different brand, etc… There is also the option of green tea pills which you could find at a health food store.
If you’ve given green tea the old ‘college try’ and still absolutely can’t stand the taste, I say don’t torture yourself! Just skip green tea completely and focus on eating other healthy foods.

Hey Susan, you’ll have to explain the “college try”. I’ll look into the pills which should be manageable.

Oh, “college try” is simply an expression that means to try your best at something. :)
