Black Friday - is the name given to the busy shopping day the Friday after Thanksgiving. This term, which began in the mid 1970s, most likely refers to retailers’ sales moving from the red into the black (making a profit).

Not the busiest shopping day?! The day after Thanksgiving is not the busiest shopping day, at least in terms of sales. The busiest shopping day of the year is usually the Saturday before Christmas.

5th Place - From 1993 to 2001, Black Friday was the 5th busiest shopping day.

1st Place - In 2003 and 2004, Black Friday came out first as the busiest shopping day.

Most popular gifts - According to American Express, the most popular gift items in 2005 and 2006 were gift cards.
