The Dreaded Halloween Candy!

Candy CornHow do you get through Halloween (and its aftermath) when you’re faced with candy at work, candy you buy for the treat-or-treaters, candy your kids bring home, and leftover candy when Halloween has come and gone?

Here are 13 tips on how to handle the candy and keep your diet healthy:

  1. Buy fewer bags of candy.
  2. Buy candy that you know you won't eat.
  3. Don't buy candy at all! Hand out little toys to trick-or-treaters instead.
  4. Don't open the bags of candy until right before it's time to hand them out.
  5. Have someone else in your family hand out the candy (so you won't be tempted to try one or two or three...).
  6. Try to give away all the candy if possible.
  7. Take leftover candy to work - then put it far from your desk!
  8. Donate leftover candy to a charity.
  9. Make little bags of leftover candy to give to children you might know who have disabilities and were unable to go trick-or-treating.
  10. Ration the candy. Make it last for you and everyone else in your household.
  11. Keep the candy out of sight. Ask a family member to hide it from you!
  12. Crush up some of the chocolate candy and save it for holiday pies, cakes, cookies, or fudge.
  13. If all else fails, you can always throw away the leftover candy if it's too much temptation for you!

Halloween candy is nothing to fear when you know how to deal with it in a healthy way! :)
