Welcome Ultimate Blog Partiers!

5 Minutes for Mom is hosting an Ultimate Blog Party March 7-15. It's where hundreds of women bloggers introduce their blogs and share a little bit about themselves. They're giving away prizes too! I really like prize #s: 140, 107, 67, 79, 129, and 108. Cool stuff!

Read on for my party post contribution...

Hi, and Welcome!

I hope you enjoy your time here at my humble, cozy dwelling. My name is Susan, and I entered into the blogging world this past October. It's been a fun and great learning experience ever since!

As the name of my blog suggests, I primarily write about food and fitness, with a little fun thrown in there too. :)

Currently, I've been focusing on an issue that affects me greatly - sugar addiction! I definitely believe certain individuals can get addicted to sugar, and I'm definitely one of them! I'm working on gaining control over it and hopefully cut it out completely (although I'm far from doing that right now)!

So, if you've got a love-hate relationship with the sweet stuff too, you're more than welcome to follow me on my journey and offer your hints, tips, stories, and successes. :)

I love meeting people, reading other blogs, and being part of a community. I love learning from you bloggers! There are some super great ideas, stories, and information out there! I learn more about the specifics of blogging from you too - always a good thing! My blog continues to be a work in progress.

Just for fun, here are 7 Facts About Me:

  1. I know just about every Disney movie song word for word (Oh yes, I'm afraid it's true)!
  2. I sing opera (Currently working on "Quando m'en vo" by Puccini).
  3. I worked as a labor and delivery nurse for 8 years.
  4. I lived in Japan for 2 years (fascinating country - I loved it!)
  5. I'm married to a wonderful husband! No kids (yet!)
  6. I am a believer in the Bible and of what Jesus Christ has done for me.
  7. A couple of my favorite inspirational authors: Robin Jones Gunn and Karen Kingsbury. (I am waiting in anticipation for Kingsbury's last book in the Sunrise Series!)

Gift Giveaway!

And since this is a party, what's a party withskinny songsout party favors? I'm giving away one copy of... da dada daaaa... Skinny Songs, a CD featuring upbeat songs that aim to motivate us to get in shape and improve our fitness! I'm all for motivation! :)

To be entered into the drawing for this CD, all you have to do is share your favorite workout in the comments section below.

I'll draw the winner's name the day after the Ultimate Blog Party - March 15th. So come on back to see who won! It'll be our little after party, so to speak. ;)

Thanks for coming, and enjoy the other blog parties!

Hello! I’m glad that I stopped by. I enjoy learning about fitness. I have lost all of my baby weight, plus some, and working at keeping it off. My favorite workout….well I can’t say that I have a favorite one. I go to Jazzercise 3 to 4 times a week and I love how motivating those workouts are. I have stuck with this longer then anything else!

#2 Angie @ Many Little Blessings on 03.09.08 at 12:44 am

So nice to “meet” you!
I don’t know that I have a favorite exercise, but I used to love it when my husband and I could get out and play tennis. It seems that the kids stopped us from really being able to do that, but hopefully we’ll get back to it again soon!

#3 lynnae on 03.09.08 at 1:54 am

I love Karen Kingsbury too! I’m a book behind in the Sunrise series, though. I haven’t read the latest one. Must do that soon. :)
My favorite workout….is none a good answer? I hate to sweat. If I have to pick one though, I’d have to say power walking. I may try running soon, too.

#4 Sandy on 03.09.08 at 9:25 am

CD sounds wonderful…We all need a little encouragement

#5 Suzanne Lewis on 03.09.08 at 1:15 pm

I love Disney songs too!

#6 Susan on 03.09.08 at 3:08 pm

Nicol,
Hi! I’m glad you stopped by too! :)
Good for you for losing all your baby weight! That’s a great accomplishment!
Jazzercise is a lot of fun. I love dancing, in general, so I can absolutely understand how it’s easy to stick with it!

Angie,
Good to meet you too. :)
Working out with your husband is great and so much fun. Maybe you and your husband can get back into tennis this spring. (And I am definitely ready for Spring, let me tell ya!)

Lynnae,
Hmm… don’t know if “no exercise” qualifies as a favorite workout. ;) Power walking is a great exercise, though. Good luck in moving on to running. Go for it!
(But beware; you’ll probably sweat!!!!) :)

Sandy,
Hi there! Thanks for coming to my party!

Suzanne,
Oh, good! I’m not alone! ;)

#7 Taryn S on 03.09.08 at 3:36 pm

Happy blog party!

I love going to gym by myself! I get very little ‘me’ time. I just hop on the eliptical and read a mag!

#8 Vader's Mom on 03.09.08 at 7:46 pm

Nice meeting you!
My favorite workout would be walking my dog, Vader, in the park.

#9 Cassie on 03.09.08 at 10:01 pm

I love Karen Kingsbury too…I have been trying to lose 30-40 pounds a few months now…Working out 3-4 times a week, and drinking lots of water…I have only lost 5 lbs….I have been doing this since December….Any advice??? Enjoyed your blog…

#10 Cassie on 03.09.08 at 10:02 pm

Forgot to mention my favorite exercise…it is the elliptical or arc trainer…whichever is available at the Y….

#11 Deborah on 03.09.08 at 10:53 pm

My favorite workout…I love swimming or stretching exercises…

Taryn S,
I enjoy working out solo too. Me time is precious! I also like the elliptical. :)

Vader’s Mom,
Love your dog’s name! :) I bet you two have fun walking in the park.

Cassie,
It’s frustrating when the weight loss seems to be sooo s-l-o-w!
However, I’d say you’re doing a great job at your weight loss! Try to focus on all the positive things you’re doing. Focus on improving your health, in general. That will keep your motivation going.

That’s what I’m trying to do now; eat for health, not specifically weight loss. I believe if you’re eating healthy, exercising, and taking good care of yourself, the weight loss will follow.

You brought up some great topics for discussion, Cassie! :)

Deborah,
Hi! Swimming is a great exercise, very easy on the joints too!
How do you like Australia? I’ve never been there, but I would love to travel there one day!

Phyllis,
Thanks for visiting!

#14 Cindy on 03.10.08 at 9:32 am

Hi Susan,

Happy Blog Party! No need to enter me into the contest. I already have a copy. Actually, I’m listening to it right now. It’s quickly becoming my favorite CD.

My favorite workout is a solid, full body strength training routine. When I’m all rubbery, I know I’ve worked my body.

#15 Cindy on 03.10.08 at 9:54 am

Oh, and what part of Japan did you live in? We lived down in Sasebo just below the main island. We were there for 2 years too. It’s quite an experience.

#16 Marcia on 03.10.08 at 11:58 am

My favorite workout is walking. When it’s too cold for that, I like Carmen Electra’s Strippercize dvds. I don’t actually do the routines, but I do the warm up and the cardio workout.

#17 Danielle S on 03.10.08 at 1:19 pm

I need all the motivating I can get! LOL!

#18 Susan on 03.10.08 at 6:26 pm

Cindy,
Thanks for letting me know about the CD drawing. :)
I lived on the west side of Tokyo, in Tachikawa. When it was a clear morning I could see Mt Fuji. Actually, one of the highlights for me while living in Japan was climbing Mt Fuji! Oh my goodness! That was absolutely amazing, beautiful, and gave such a feeling of accomplishment! I have fond fond memories of Japan. :)

Marcia,
I love going for walks through nature preserves. It’s rejuvenating. I’ve tried Carmen Electra’s striptease workout; it’s a hoot! :)

Hi Danielle,
We all could use a little more motivation now and then. :)
What’s your favorite workout?

#19 Storm on 03.10.08 at 8:16 pm

Nice to meet you. Happy blogging!

#20 Shay on 03.10.08 at 11:33 pm

I just got a Denise Austin DVD in the mail and I’ve really enjoyed her cardio workout. This music would motivate me to workout more often.

#21 Susan on 03.11.08 at 5:14 pm

Storm,
Thanks for visiting! :)

Shay,
I honestly used to not enjoy exercising with Denise Austin, but now I really like her! She is so positive and encouraging. I like that.

#22 Julie on 03.11.08 at 7:45 pm

To be honest….I HATE working out. Over the years I’ve tried various things and it never got easier. Currently, I am walking every day and doing 3 days of strength training that my personal trainer ordered. As for sugar addiction: I have been Pepsi free for 2 weeks! (WOW!) And I’ve only had a small sweet treat 3 times during that 2 week period. (Not 3 times a day or more, like before!)

#23 bonggamom on 03.12.08 at 1:48 pm

My fave workout is a good, old fashioned 30-minute run. It really gets those endorphins going…. would love the Skinny Songs cd so I can get those songs on my iPod!

I’m glad I joined your party…happy partying around the blogosphere, and hope you have time to drop my mine (I’m hosting a magazine giveaway!).

#24 Susan on 03.12.08 at 6:28 pm

Julie,
Hey, you’re being honest! :)
Good for you walking every day and strength training. That’s excellent! And congrats on cutting out the Pepsi!
Keep up your great work! :)

bonggamom,
Running is one of my favorite workouts too. :) I haven’t been running for a long time due to an injury, but I’m hoping to start again (very slowly!) as the weather gets warmer.
Thanks for visiting!

#25 MaryBeth on 03.12.08 at 8:54 pm

Hi Susan,
Thanks for stopping by my party post! I would have to say my favorite (should actually read: only ones I have time for these days) workout is pushing my triple stroller filled with ~70 pounds worth of toddlers, hoisting my little ladies into the air for giggles, and generally chasing after all four of my girlies from 7a to 7p. I would love to find a great DVD I could do after they go to bed… any suggestions? I don’t have too much trouble with food because who has time to eat with four children under the age of 3 in the house?!?
Thanks again for stopping by… enjoy the rest of the party.

#26 Nichole on 03.12.08 at 9:05 pm

I use to be an aerobics instructor until I had my daughter. My favorite workout is probably plain and simple hi/lo aerobics, especially when I am teaching. It makes the time go by so much faster. It has been great partying with you!

#27 Jinxy on 03.13.08 at 1:08 am

Hi! Nice to meet you – Isn’t the Ultimate Blog Party fun?!? My favorite workout is walking my dog. But even though she’s a big dog (German Shepherd) she gets tired out – so not always the best workout partner!

#28 Candi on 03.13.08 at 9:39 am

Let’s see—although I haven’t used one in a while, I really like elliptical trainers. I also love just getting out and walking with the boys. Now that it is getting nicer, that is easier to do!! Thanks for stopping by my blog!!

#29 Susan on 03.13.08 at 12:56 pm

Marybeth,
You may not be doing what people call conventional exercises, but sounds like you’re still getting a great workout… and creating fun memories in the process too! :)
As far as exercise DVDs go, choose the one you will do regularly. Usually that means picking one that you really enjoy. A great place to start is your library. The DVDs may not be the latest editions, but you will save money and be able to sample different workouts. :)

Nichole,
Hi/Lo is fun. I like it when the routines are more “dancey” simply because I love to dance! :) With your aerobics instructor background I’m sure you’ve got some fun ideas for choreography. :)

Jinxy,
Aww… But hey, if the both of you are having fun together, that’s the main thing! :)

Candi,
Oh, I bet that’s fun taking walks with your boys. I love going for walks, especially through state parks. I’m excited that the weather is slowly getting warmer because I’m ready to get outside and go for some walks! :)

#30 Melanie on 03.13.08 at 1:14 pm

Hi there! I’m glad I found your blog through the blog party. I’m definitely adding it to my google reader. I run marathons and am definitely interesting in all things health and fitness! Glad to “meet” you.

#31 Kim on 03.13.08 at 3:18 pm

I, too, love Jesus, Disney, Karen Kingsbury & sugar! My favorite workout is my ball – I have the Core Secrets program – LOVE IT! Most of the workouts are 20 minutes, long enough to help me get back into shape (post baby) and short enough that my children can survive! :-) The cd sounds wonderful – I can use all the motivation I can get.
Have a ‘Zip A Dee Doo Dah’ Day!
BLessings,
Kim

#32 Susan on 03.13.08 at 6:31 pm

Melanie,
Thank you! :) I appreciate you adding me to your reader!

Kim,
Good to meet you! :)
I haven’t tried the actually Core Secrets workout, but I’ve used an exercise ball. It’s excellent for crunches – really targets the abs!
Love that song, by the way! ;)

#33 Sandy Y on 03.14.08 at 1:20 am

How about a Disney opera? :) While I don’t sing opera (or anything in public…horrible voice) I’ll admit to knowing a number of disney songs word for word also!
This cd looks great! After a long time away from exercising, I just got back into it last week. I’ve been using the elliptical or bike!

#34 JoLynn Braley on 03.14.08 at 12:43 pm

Hi Susan! How fun, my fav workout? That would be doing my paced walking on my treadmill – super low impact but it burns the fat (and I always feel refreshed and exhilarated afterwards). I get good blog ideas when I’m working out also, so that’s a bonus. :)

Have fun at the party!

#35 Susan on 03.14.08 at 6:32 pm

Sandy,
Disney opera… Now that would be interesting. :)

JoLynn,
Isn’t that the truth! The best ideas seem to pop up in my head when I’m exercising by myself without music, TV, etc. That or when I’m between being asleep and fully awake!
I just have to work on remembering the details of these grand ideas! :)
Have fun party hopping!

#36 Pamela Kramer on 03.14.08 at 9:43 pm

Guess who won prize #107?
Yep it’s you! Please be patient while the prize donor is contacted. They will be in touch with you soon. Congratulations!!!!!!!

#37 Susan on 03.15.08 at 11:23 am

I won??? Wow! I won!!! :)
I honestly wasn’t expecting to win a prize, so this is very exciting!
Thank you very much! :)
